Buescher Finishes 12th in Richmond
Coming off his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory last weekend at Kansas Speedway, James Buescher rolled into Richmond International Raceway riding a wave of confidence. The No. 30 team was looking for another solid performance out of their Chevrolet Impala.
Buescher started Friday night’s event on the inside of the 11th row, but immediately started to navigate his way towards the front. By lap 20, Buescher had his Chevrolet in the 18th position. He radioed into his team describing the car as tight-handling in the center of the Richmond, Virginia, short track which was hindering his ability to be aggressive wit
h the accelerator.
At the halfway point in the race, Buescher had his Chevy in the 16th position still running lap times consistent with the top-10 competitors. He radioed into his team explaining the Impala was tight handling in the center of the corners. The condition certainly was not inhibiting his ability to lay down fast lap times. Buescher was consistently running top-five lap times and was making up ground on the leaders.
The No. 30 team made their final pit stop of the night under green-flag conditions on lap 200. The team again bolted on four fresh Goodyear tires and filled their car with enough Sunoco racing fuel to get to the end of the event. The pit crew did an outstanding job getting Buescher back out onto the track picking up treasured track position.
Buescher passed a number of his competitors in the last 50 laps and crossed under the finish line in the 12th position.
“Our Chevrolet was really good all night. We just struggled to get the all important track position. We were too tight early in the race, but [crew chief] Trent [Owens] made great changes to the car and the last two runs we really had some speed. I think we have made significant progress to our short track program and learned a lot tonight that we can build on. I am looking forward to next week in Talladega and trying to get Turner Motorsports their second NASCAR Nationwide Series win of the 2012 season.”
The NASCAR Nationwide Series is back in action next Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway. The Aaron’s 312 can be seen live on ABC with race coverage beginning at 3 pm EST. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 90.
