James Buescher Finishes Seven at Talladega Superspeedway
James Buescher and the No. 30 Chevrolet Impala team made their second superspeedway start of the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) season at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, May 5. The 22-year-old Texas native races inside the top-10 all day and crossed the finish line in the seventh position.
Buescher started the 117-lap event from the seventh position. The 22-year-old spent the early stage of the event keeping his machine out of harm’s way. He radioed to his crew chief, Trent Owens, explaining the Chevrolet was really strong on the bottom of the race track. On lap eight, the No. 30 machine had sliced through the field and captured the race lead.
When the caution flag was displayed to the field for the first time on lap 20 the No. 30 crew prepared to see their driver on pit road a lap later. The team went to work changing four tires and filling the Chevrolet with Sunoco racing fuel, and sent Buescher back out onto the racing surface.
With ten laps remaining in the event, Buescher was positioned solidly inside the top-15 and was started to make his move towards the race lead. He locked bumpers with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the duo started to push their way towards the race lead. Unfortunately, their forward progress was hindered by the “big one” with only two laps remaining in the event. Buescher navigated the Chevy through the carnage and lined up 10th for the final restart of the day. He hooked up with Turner Motorsports teammate, Justin Allgaier, and they made a push for the race lead. The duo picked up four positions in the final two laps to cross under the finish line in the seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
“What a day” commented James Buescher after the race. “The team did a great job all day long. We completed every lap and didn’t put a scratch on our car. We obviously wanted to race for the win but I am proud of everyone at Turner Motorsports. These races are all about track position on the last couple of laps. [Turner Motorsports teammate] Justin [Allgaier] and I tried to get hooked up there on the last restart trying to get to the front but it took us a little too long to get going. I am looking forward to racing in Darlington [Speedway] on Friday night.”
The No.30 Turner Motorsports team will return to action Friday, May 11th at the famed Darlington Raceway. The VFW Sport Clip Help a Hero 200 will be broadcast live on ESPN 2 with coverage beginning at 6:30 EST. The race can also be heard on MRN Radio as well as Sirius/XM Radio channel 90.
