Buescher Scores Top 10 Finish at Darlington
James Buescher and the No. 30 Chevrolet team traveled to the famed Darlington Raceway for May 11’s 200-mile VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200. Buescher and the No. 30 Chevrolet team coming off a solid seventh place finish last week at Talladega Superspeedway were looking for another solid result at the track “Too Tough to Tame.” Buescher and the AccuDoc Solutions team made calculated moves all night long, which resulted in a second consecutive top-10 result.
Buescher started the 147-lap event from the 14th position, but as soon as the green flag was displayed to the field, he was steadily moving to the front. By lap 20, the 22-year-old Texas-native was in the mix of the top-10 cars. He described the No. 30 Chevrolet as a bit tight-handling in the center of the third and fourth turns.
Buescher saw the green flag again displayed to the field on lap 45 where he found himself in the 11th position. He radioed into his crew on lap 61, explaining the car was now a tick too loose. He felt as if the car was in a four wheel drift. Buescher explained he needed more overall grip in order to really push the car to its limits around the famed South Carolina speedway. Crew Chief Trent Owens started to strategize on what changes he could make to his Chevrolet to help gain traction in the corners.
The team made their second pit stop under green flag conditions on lap 93. The No. 30 crew again bolted forward on four fresh Goodyear tires and a full tank of Sunoco racing fuel. The squad also made another chassis adjustment hoping to find the balance Buescher was looking for as he raced to the finish line.
Buescher skillfully navigated his No. 30 Chevrolet in the final 47 laps avoiding a number of late race incidents to cross under the checkered flag in the ninth position.
“I am really pleased with our effort tonight”, commented Buescher after the 147-lap event. “We made a number of adjustments to the Chevrolet early in the event and went and maybe went a little too far. Trent Owens did a great job getting the balance right for the final segment, and we captured another top-10 finish. Darlington is both physically and mentally demanding. You have to really race the racetrack and try to put yourself in the right place at the right time. I really enjoy racing here. This team continues to build confidence each and every week. I am really proud of everyone this team and what we have accomplished.”
The No.30 Turner Motorsports team will return to action May 19 at Iowa Speedway. The Pioneer Hi-Bred 250 will be broadcast live on ESPN with coverage beginning at 1 p.m. EST. The race can also be heard on MRN Radio as well as Sirius/XM Radio channel 90.
